Episode 19: It’s Ok To Say Gay!

Today’s episode is going to be a little different. If this is your first time tuning in we recommend you listen to Episodes 1 thru 18 to get a sense of what the podcast is about and the typical format because today we’re going off course.

Tuesday of this week in our home state of Florida, a war against the LGBTQ+ community (especially our youth) was waged by our government officials. Legislation passed the “Parental Rights in Education” bill — which let’s be real is really the “don’t say gay” bill. The bill now just awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature to become law and well if you know anything about who he is – it’s inevitable that it will be signed into law.

In this episode, we discuss the consequences of having this law in place.

Key Takeaways:

  • Anger, when used in a constructive way is a wonderful tool to enact change.
  • Using pronouns is an easy way to be an ally.
  • The Trevor Project estimates that at least one LGBTQ youth between the ages of 13–24 attempts suicide every 45 seconds in the U.S.
  • Please check out the resources below and help us protect the LGBQT+ youth.
